Mechanical Engineer needed in the field of
Renewable Energy and Agricultural Waste
Farm Pilot Project Coordination, Inc. (FPPC), a non-profit organization, was designated by Congress (Public Law 107-76) to assist in implementing innovative treatment technologies to address the growing waste issues associated with animal feeding operations (AFOs). Due to recent growth, we are seeking a senior-level engineer with strong experience in mechanical design. The position reports to the General Manager and will be responsible for specification development, product design, system level schematic, component assembly and installation drawings. The mechanical engineer designs, develops, and tests all aspects of mechanical components, equipment, and machinery. In addition, he/she will apply knowledge of engineering principles to design processes utilizing engines, instruments, controls and machines such as boilers, heat exchangers, etc. This position will involved with fabrication suppliers and sourcing, startup operations, analysis of equipment efficiencies, trouble shooting and analysis of farm systems.
Candidates must possess a bachelor's degree in Engineering and at least 5 years of experience in the field or in a related area. Must be able to read and understand product vision, marketing specs, functional specs, project scheduling, and manufacture drawings based on approved design specifications. A PE designation in the state of FL is preferred. Familiarity with agricultural waste systems, knowledge of value engineering, optimization of six sigma evaluation tools and/or process variability a plus. Hands-on experience with HVAC design, equipment integration, value engineering, process analysis, and knowledge energy conversion processes are essential. Knowledge of boiler, material handling, and gasification systems as well as prior experience with environmental compliance relative to farming is a definite plus! The ideal candidate is a self-starter who relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. Must have sufficient communication and interpersonal skills to be effective in a lead role while performing field work or in a corporate environment.
Essential duties/responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Develops tests and evaluates theoretical designs.
- Performs system design calculations, layout and equipment selection
- Consults with management and reviews project to determine goals, time frame, funding limitations, and procedures for accomplishing project, staffing requirements, and allotment of resources
- Leads the development of technical solutions
- Develops project plans specifying goals, strategy, scheduling, identification of risks, contingency plans, and resource requirements
- Formulates and defines technical scope and objectives of project
- Identifies and schedules project deliverables, milestones, and required tasks
- Directs and coordinates activities of project personnel to ensure project progresses on schedule and within budget
- Assures equipment and utilities operate consistently and accurately within specified parameters
- Performs other duties as assigned
The position is based in Tampa, FL with frequent travel (up to 50%) to various project sites throughout the US.
